Halloween Half-pagers Decorations Darkly

“49, 50, 51…”  Danny looked confused as he saw his fifty-first Halloween decoration. “I thought I only had fifty” he said out-loud. Every year, a week before Halloween he would bring out his army of monster props. Life size figures of the truly ghoulish. From ghosts to skeletons, zombies and werewolves, Frankenstein and of course Freddy, his troop of terrors to hold back the candy crazed kids. Did it work? Of course not, his display drew kids like bears to honey, and he loved it. But something was not right, last year there were fifty and he hadn’t added anything new to his collection this year. Danny could understand if he was short, he had been stolen from before. The thought of a secret donation to his collection, that didn’t feel right. Stepping back he took in his whole monster army and felt uncomfortable. All those creepy faces looking at him, it was a little unnerving, heck why did he even want all these things in his yard? “That’s because I love monsters!” Laughing at his self doubt, Danny decided to approach things logically; he grouped like monsters together, so he would count each group. “Let’s see… There are seven zombies, four scarecrows…” Danny paused, he had only three scarecrows. He moved toward them to stare at each one and could clearly see hay coming out of the seams of the first three, the forth one was different, with its dark eye holes instead of button eyes. Something was wrong with this one. He stepped up to it to see into its eye holes. There were someone’s eyes staring back at him. The scarecrow reached out…
